"Surviving Single" Group

I have a friend who met her husband in her backyard. He was staying in the back house that her parents rented out. They eventually got to know each other and found that they shared many values and goals in life. Their friendship grew into a romantic relationship, and now, many years later, they are married and have two beautiful children.

Some people have all the luck. For the rest of us, dating in LA is a slog. Dating (and perhaps dating in LA in particular) is rife with problems and disappointment.

Surviving Single in LA is meant to be a shared healing experience. Through discussion, values are highlighted, and problems are accounted for within the context of society rather than within the individual. We see that we are not alone in the struggle. We will discuss how cultural expectations, dating apps, and capitalism (among other factors) can contribute to depression, anxiety, and shame.

The group will also spend time on each person's wonderfulness. Therapy shouldn't be just about problems. It is my hope that, with the help of this group, people can change their relationship with dating -- and change our relationships with ourselves.

Group therapy works best when there is consistency, sufficient time to delve into issues, and camaraderie among group members. As such, we ask for a 4-week commitment with the opportunity to continue attending after that.
